There’s a lot of confusion surrounding hormones. To replace or not to replace? Safe or unsafe? Bioidentical or synthetic?
We watch Suzanne Somers and various medical professionals debate the use of bioidentical hormones versus synthetic hormones on shows such as Larry King Live. The media tells us that hormones are dangerous. Some physicians say hormones cause cancer, yet still prescribe synthetic hormones such as Premarin and Prempro, synthetic hormones which actually have been proven to cause cancer. Even Oprah has joined in on the conversation about hormones.
Everyone has questions and we definitely want to encourage you to continue to question. Questioning the status quo is at the heart of science and alternative medicine. Questioning conventional medicine is what led to our alternative approach to medicine that focuses on health care rather than traditional sick care.
It seems like many physicians are dabbling in bioidentical hormones these days, but you probably know which side of the hormone debate we are on, as we’ve successfully treated patients with bioidentical hormones since the spring of 1996. We hope to give you a little bit more information about why we believe in bioidentical hormones by explaining the basics about bioidentical hormones versus synthetic hormone replacement therapy and dispelling a few myths that have created a lot of confusion about bioidentical hormones. We encourage you to look at both sides of the argument and decide for yourself.
As we begin to delve into the topic of bioidentical hormones this week, I want to pose a question: What confuses you the most about hormones, specifically bioidentical versus synthetic hormones? What questions would you like answered?
